Our advice is to simply mix a ¼ teaspoon of non-bleach detergent or white vinegar with 32 ounces of water, which you can then spray or blot onto the carpet stain. Then, rinse with warm water, and repeat until the stain is removed.

Wool or wool blend carpeting requires using one tablespoon of mild detergent mixed with one cup of water to properly clean coffee stains. Polypropylene carpets can withstand stronger cleansers, such one tablespoon ammonia with one cup of water, or one-part chlorine with five parts water. Finally, similarly with water-soluble stains, blot or spritz the mixture, rinse with warm water, and repeat. Non-Liquid Substances
While most stains caused by liquid substances require some amount of cleansing agent to remove, harder substances such as fat, wax, glue and gum have specific methods of removal.

- Glue: Dip a cotton ball or soft cloth in rubbing alcohol and blotting it on a glue stain, then gently wipe away the moistened glue until it is entirely removed.
- Gum: freeze it up using a piece of ice, then shatter it with a spoon or other blunt object. The pieces can then be picked out or vacuumed.
